A new study by the U.S. Department of Energy recently showed how much energy new heating and air conditioning system can save on your energy bills. The study looked at the current market: $14 billion that homeowners spent replacing nearly three million heating and cooling systems in 2019. The study found that heating and cooling accounts for about half of a home's energy. They then calculated that, depending on your region, replacing heating and cooling equipment with higher efficiency models could reduce a home's energy bill by 50% for electric systems and 10% for gas furnace systems.
In fact, the Dept. of Energy recommends Energy Star certified heating and cooling equipment, which typically save customers 10-30% off their bill. These products are independently certified to save energy without sacrificing any features or functionality.
