Is Your Home Ready for Winter?
Living in Georgia, you may not need to run your heater every day during winter like you would if you lived in a state like North Dakota or Maine. Even so, it’s important to have a reliable heating system in place. We still get our share of cold snaps, blustery days, frigid temperatures and all-around erratic winter weather. And when we do, it’s important to be ready for what comes our way.
The HVAC experts at Assured Comfort recommend you have your home’s heating system professionally-inspected once a year, ideally before cold weather arrives, to ensure that everything is working properly and efficiently. Your furnace has probably been sitting idle all spring and summer, which means it should be checked out before its heavy use days. We can inspect all parts and components of your heating system, including your furnace or heat pumps, ductwork, air filter, fuel pipe, heating exchanger and thermostat. If there are any parts that have worn out and need to be replaced, we can take care of that. We can also inspect your heating system for any slight issues that may be starting to develop, and advise you on your options to fix these things—before they “snowball” into major problems.
It might sound crazy, but a good time to get your heating system checked out is in the late summer or fall. Now quite frankly, you may not want to think about winter weather or getting your furnace checked out while you’re still enjoying temperatures in the 70s or 80s. Yet that’s exactly when you should start thinking about getting your home winter-ready.
If you wait until winter arrives to have your furnace inspected, keep in mind that’s what a lot of other people are doing too. Or, perhaps you don’t schedule an inspection at all and you just assume your heating system is going to be running properly. Then you go to turn it on during the first chilly night of the season and discover to your dismay that your furnace won’t start. Again, that’s what many people do. They don’t think about getting their heating systems looked at until they break down.
The problem is, in these scenarios, even the most service oriented HVAC company in the world can only do so much. You might be the 100th person who’s just called in for heating repairs that are needed NOW, but if there’s 99 other households ahead of you, you may have to wait in line to get the repairs you need. Obviously if it’s a bitter-cold night, that’s not going to be a lot of fun. The smart thing to do is to have your heating system checked out and to get any necessary repairs or have new equipment installed, if needed, BEFORE your system fails and you’re in an emergency situation.
Assured Comfort can help get your get your home cold weather-ready, and decrease the odds of a heating breakdown this winter. When it comes to heating services, we do it all.
Furnace Tune-ups and Service
Heating tune-ups include not only an inspection of all parts of your heating system, but also cleaning of all the major components. Additionally, our technician will test the efficiency of your heating system (how effectively your furnace or boiler converts fuel to heat), and conduct a carbon monoxide test. This annual maintenance not only helps ensure more reliable heating, but it is an excellent way to help reduce expensive heating bills. A well-maintained system is more energy-efficient, which will help lower utility bills. If your heater utilizes natural gas, we can help ensure all of your lines are secure, so your family stays safe from carbon monoxide and potential leaks.
Our technicians are all fully licensed, certified and trained to service all the major brands of boilers, furnaces and heat pumps. If your heating system breaks down in the middle of the night, our techs are on call and ready to take care of equipment repairs quickly – 24/7 (on a first-come, first-served basis of course). They will get your repairs done fast, and at a fair price. We understand that getting your heater repaired can feel like a strain on the budget, and that’s why we aim to provide cost effective heating repairs.
When you need to replace your furnace in your home, you can count on Assured Comfort. We are a premier Lennox dealer. We believe that Lennox offers the most advanced and energy efficient products available. But if you prefer another brand, we can install any make and model heating or furnace system that you prefer. Our professional technicians will carefully and properly size your new heating system to maximize efficiency, reliability and longevity. We will accurately and meticulously install your furnace to minimize stress on components, eliminate leaking or obstructed airflow, and facilitate extended care of equipment. Our service team has the experience, skills and resources to do the job right.
A heat pump is a central air conditioning system that also has the ability to heat your home during the winter. It basically “pumps” heat into your home during the cold weather months and “pumps” heat out during the summer months. If you’re interested in having a heat pump installed, we’re happy to do this for you. When properly maintained, heat pumps can work well for up to 10-15 years in the Atlanta area. But if you’ve got a heat pump in need of repair, Assured Comfort’s HVAC technicians can diagnose the problem and repair your heat pump.
In a ductless heating system, warm air is delivered through narrow pipes (mini ducts) that are seamlessly installed into your walls. A ductless heating system delivers the levels of heat you’d get with a traditional heat system, but without the ductwork. Assured Comfort can install ductless heating in your home without any major construction work. Installation is simple; we just mount the indoor and outdoor units, connect the refrigerant lines, and make a few electrical connections. Our technicians are trained at repairing these systems too. If your ductless heater isn’t producing enough heat, or if it’s making a strange noise or leaking water, we can get your system back up and running again soon.
If your heating bills last winter were higher than expected, the culprit may not be your furnace but your insulation. When insulation is old or damaged, your HVAC system must work harder to replace the heat lost through walls and windows. To keep your energy bills low, it’s important that your insulation is in good condition. If you’d like an assessment of your home’s insulation—something else you should ideally do before winter—we have technicians on staff who are trained to do home energy audits. They will come out to your home and show you the energy loss areas in your home, and advise on a more suitable form of insulation, depending on your needs. We can also install the new insulation as well.
